Cam’Ron Thomas hit three 3-pointers in the first quater to keep Mattoon close in the first quarter, but Mahomet methodically pulled ahead over the next three quarters to post an 80-54 victory in Apollo Conference boys basketball action Friday night.

Thomas, who scored 11 of the Green Wave’s 15 points in the first quarter, finished with a team-high 15. Sam Bradbury contributed 11 more.

Mahomet, which led 36-27 at halftime, outscored Mattoon 44-27 in the final two periods.

Mattoon finishes the regular season 12-17, 3-9 in the Apollo Conference. Mahomet is now 19-10, 10-2.

The Green Wave next face Decatur Eisenhower in their Class 3A regional basketball opener at 7 on Wednesday night at Mattoon High. The winner advances to the regional final scheduled for Friday night.
