Mason Wright hit two free throws with 7.5 seconds to go to clinch a 45-41 Mattoon victory over Olney on Tuesday night.
The Green Wave spoiled Olney’s senior night, ironically on an evening in which the Tigers did not have a senior basketball player.
Sam Bradbury contributed a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Green Wave employed a number of defenses in an attempt to keep Tiger junior Braden Flanagan in check. Flanagan led the way for Olney with 19 points, but his potential go ahead 3-point attempt with 10 seconds to play rimmed out. Wright secured the rebound, was fouled and then sank the ensuing two free throws.
The Green Wave were without leading scorer KamRon Thomas, who was hurt in Friday’s loss to Effingham. Meade Johnson started in Thomas’ place, as Johnson works his way back from a midseason injury.
Mattoon improves to 12-16, while Olney drops to 16-12. The Wave wrap up regular season play Friday at Mahomet.
