Mallory Ramage and Delainey Bryant combined to score more points than host Effingham on Thursday night in leading Mattoon past another Apollo Conference foe, 63-32.

Ramage hit four 3-pointers to score 24 while Bryant made 10 field goals for her 20 points.

“I thought we played great team basketball on both sides of the floor,” Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt said. “Everyone did their job and did what they needed to do for us to be successful. “

The game was never close.

Ramage and Bryant scored 12 of the Green Wave’s 19 points in the first quarter for a 12-point advantage. They scored 15 more in a 22-point second quarter that put Mattoon ahead 41-17.

The game featured nine 3-pointers by both teams but only a single free-throw attempt, a missed shot by Mattoon in the third quarter.

Mattoon improved to 23-5 overall and 10-0 in the Apollo Conference, one-half game ahead of Mt. Zion (9-1), which played Tolono in a non-conference game Thursday night. Effingham drops to 4-6 in the Apollo.

Mattoon plays host to Taylorville on Monday before traveling to face Mt. Zion next Thursday for what likely will be the conference championship. Mt. Zion faces Lincoln next Monday.
