Mattoon took eighth in Saturday’s middle school invitational.

Three Mattoon wrestlers were ranked No. 1 in IESA Class 2A state rankings released this past weekend. Cam French is the top-rated wrestler at 80 pounds, as is Korbin Bateman at 90 and Aidan Blackburn at 145.

Ben Capitosti, a seventh grader, is ranked third at 100 pounds.

Bateman and Blackburn, both eighth-graders, captured titles in their respective weight classes at the Bloomington Invitational on Saturday to help Mattoon Middle finish eighth as a team. Capitosti took third at 100 pounds.

Several other MMS wrestlers placed at the invitational Saturday, including Jordan Eveland, who took third place at 80 pounds; Tristan Porter, fourth place at 70 pounds; and Luke Ferris, seventh place at 135 pounds.

Kyran Jackson (85 pounds) and Jacob Tucker (100) each finished eighth.
