Mallory Ramage scored a game-high 21 points Monday.

Sullivan outscored Mattoon 18-6 in the third quarter to erase an eight-point halftime deficit and hand the Green Wave their first loss of the season Monday night in a girls basketball game played at Mattoon Middle School, 47-43.

Mattoon shot well below its season average, making only 26.7 percent of its two-point field goals compared to having made 50.2 percent for its previous 12 games. The Green Wave also made 14.2 percent of their 3-point attempts on 3-of-21 shooting, which was also half as high as its season average of 28.4 percent.

“We had our chances, but we just couldn’t make our shots,” Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt said.

Mattoon once again played a tough defense in the first half, limiting the Redskins to 14 points. The Green Wave also tied its season-high for steals overall at 16.

But the Green Wave could manage only three field goals by Jordan Sapp in that third quarter and allowed 33 second-half points.

Mallory Ramage scored 11 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter before fouling out. Sullivan matched Mattoon in that final quarter, 15-15.

Sapp scored 12 points, making six of seven free-throw attempts and three field goals, and grabbed three rebounds.

The Green Wave, now 12-1, next play Vandalia at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in its Holiday Tournament at MHS. Check here or go to the schedule in the upper-right hand column of the website for the complete tournament schedule.
