
Meade Johnson scored 16 points and Dalton Compton contributed 14, but the Mattoon boys basketball team fell to Taylorville on Friday night, 68-59.
Mattoon went on a 10-0 run to start the second quarter, giving the Green Wave a 26-16 lead with just over six minutes left in the half. But the Tornadoes responded with a 19-2 run to go ahead 35-28 at halftime, a lead they did not relinquish.
Johnson scored 11 points in the second half and Compton scored all 14 in the first half. Johnson and Compton each made two 3-pointers.
Mattoon dropped to 4-5 overall, 1-3 in the Apollo Conference. Taylorville is now 2-2 in the conference.
Cam’Ron Thomas, Alex Yardley and Sam Bradbury scored eight points apiece for the Green Wave.
Mattoon next plays in the Effingham/Teutopolis Holiday Tournament, which starts Dec. 26.
