Lake Land appeared to have a challenge to its perfect season on Saturday afternoon.

But a stingy defense and hot shooting turned a six-point halftime lead into a 24-point advantage in the third quarter on the way to a 80-59 win over John A Logan.

Lake Land is now 9-0.

Carsyn Fearday scored 15 points, while Kamaria Gant added 12 and Abby Weis added 10.

Lake Land shot 46 percent from the field, including 14-35 from 3-point range. The Volunteers hit on 42 percent of their field goals and 3-21 (14 percent) of 3s.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair with both offenses coming out strong. John A. Logan scored the first basket, however the Lakers quickly went on a 10-2 run over five minutes to stake an early six-point lead. The Volunteers would then make a 6-0 run to tie the score at 10 with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter.

Lake Land would then respond with a 9-2 run to take a 19-12 lead with 2:10 remaining, before another quick 7-2 Volunteer run gave the Lakers the 21-19 lead after the first quarter.

Lake Land used a 10-2 run over the first three minutes of the second quarter to stake out to a 10-point lead. The rest of the quarter saw that lead fluctuate to between four points and eight. It was 37-31 at halftime.

Lake Land came out of the locker room quickly, going on a 24-6 run over the first 3:25 of the quarter, with the Lakers hitting on four of six 3-point attempts. By the end of the third quarter, the game was no longer in doubt as the Lakers led 66-45.
