Nate Thompson scored 15 of his 30 points in the third quarter to help host Effingham rally in the second half to defeat Mattoon, 76-71, on Friday night.
Cam’Ron Thomas scored 15 point in the opening quarter when the Green Wave took a 22-16 lead. Mattoon held a 38-34 lead at halftime before the Flaming Hearts went on a 28-11 run in the third quarter.
Thomas scored nine points in the fourth quarter when Mattoon mounted a comeback account, but fell just short.
Thomas made three 3-pointers and finished with 28 points overall, and teammate Mason Wright scored 15 with three 3 as well. Josiah Morton contributed 12 points.
Mattoon next plays host to Lincoln on Tuesday night.
