Mallory Ramage scored 24 points, had four assists and recorded five steals to lead Mattoon past Effingham, 55-34, on Thursday night.

The Green Wave remain undefeated in girls basketball at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Apollo Conference.

Ahead 25-20 at halftime, Mattoon outscored Effingham 30-14 in the second half. The Green Wave also recorded 14 steals overall behind Ramage and four by Faith Niebrugge.

“I am proud of the way our girls picked up the intensity in the second half,” Mattoon coach Amanda Aydt said. “We put a press on them and forced them to turn the ball over. We got some steals which led to some lay-ups in transition.  I thought we did a much better job of getting in position and boxing out the second half.”

Mattoon next plays host to Marshall at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
