Charleston’s Caleb Hurst (0) scored seven points Wednesday night

Charleston made four of its first seven shots to go ahead 10-7 and retained a 13-12 lead after one period.

But Terre Haute South then made five second-period steals, took advantage of several Trojans turnovers and went on a 9-0 run to take charge in a 60-34 victory Tuesday night.

The Braves outscored Charleston 16-5 in the second quarter and 24-9 in the third when they had six more steals to take a 52-27 lead entering the final quarter.

Charleston was playing in its fourth game in six days.

“Terre Haute’s quickness and aggressive defense hurt us a little,” Charleston coach Brad Oakley said. “We missed some shots we normally hit, but their defense had something to do with that as well.”

Isaac Miller made two 3-pointers to score 10, the only Trojans player in double-figures. Luke Bell added eight and both Caleb Hurst and Cade Landrus had seven points apiece.

Charleston, now 3-2, travels to play Mahomet on Friday night.

In junior varsity action, Jackson Burgess made five 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead the Trojans to a 59-57 victory over Terre Haute South.

Charleston, which trailed by 10 at halftime, outscored Terre Haute South 19-11 in the third quarter.

Jaksen Braun scored 15 points for the JV Trojans, now 2-0 overall.
