Lake Land College’s Carol Souza leaps to return a shot Wednesday night in the team’s home finale. Souza recorded 18 kills and 11 digs against Wabash Valley.

Lake Land College volleyball pulled out a 3-1 win over Wabash Valley College on Wednesday night, securing second place outright in the GRAC during sophomore night. 

The Lakers (18-12, 11-3) easily won the first set, 25-9, and then took the second, 25-20, in their last regular-season home match of the season. But Wabash Valley would not go down with out a fight. 

Lake Land won the first set, 25-9 after taking a 12-2 lead. Wabash made it closer in the second set, 25-20, before winning the third, 25-21, in which neither team was able to get more than a two-point lead until late. 

The Lakers started quickly in the final set before winning 25-15 to seal the victory. 

Leading the way for Lake Land was Carol Souza with 18 kills and 11 digs, Ashlyn Clem who had 20 digs and two service aces and Maria Gentry with 17 digs.

The setter duo of Laney Chiaravalle and Ella McConkey combined for 42 assists. They were able to spread out the chances, with Ashlyn Macdonald earning 12 kills, and Katie Tarkington adding nine. 

Wabash Valley fell to 13-18, 7-7.
