Charleston goalkeeper Ben Tresslar makes a diving save to prevent a goal in the second half, which proved to be the margin of victory for the Trojans on Tuesday night.

Staff report

Eugene Ohba and Aly Abou-Zaid each scored in the second half, and goalkeeper Ben Tresslar recorded six saves to lead Charleston High boys to a 3-2 victory over Springfield Lincoln on Tuesday night at Stranz Field in an Apollo Conference game.

Charleston’s Blake Garrett had drilled in a shot from about 20 yards out in the opening minute, but the Trojans then struggled to find another clear shot for the rest of the first half.

Charleston junior Blake Garrett steals the ball at midfield during the first half on Tuesday night.

A Charleston defender trying to clear the ball inadvertently kicked the ball into the Trojans net midway through the first half, lofting it over Tresslar’s head from about five yards out to tie the score, 1-1.

Ohba then scored 15 minutes into the second half, followed by a goal from About-Zaid five minutes later to put Charleston ahead, 3-1. Tresslar made several stops in the second half, including the diving block above, to help secure the victory.

We’ll have a more in-depth report on this game from reporter Jeremy Arzuaga on Wednesday morning.

Charleston senior Quinn Meyer heads the ball away from goal in the second half.
