Charleston traveled to Paris Friday night where both teams were looking to keep a perfect start to the season. Charleston would make that happen with a decisive 56-20 win at Tiger Stadium.

Charleston started the game strong with a first-possession drive that came up short on the touchdown, but sophomore Max Weber would connect on the 25-yard field goal attempt to put the Trojans ahead 3-0.

The Trojans wouldn’t let up, capitalizing on an illegal block call on the Tigers that put the line of scrimmage near the Trojan endzone. Pressure on the QB would push him back into the endzone and a sack extended the lead to 5-0.

Charleston then marched down the field on its next possession when senior Brett Spour would find the endzone for the first time of the evening to put the Trojans ahead, 12-0.

With 20 seconds left in the first quarter, Spour found hole and scored again, this time from about 25 yards out, to put the Trojans up 19-0 to end the quarter.

Spour later grabbed an interception in the second quarter to set up another score – a quarterback sneak by junior Luke Bonnstetter to extend the lead to 26-0.

Senior Chet Shrader would grab an interception and run it to the 11-yard line. A personal foul against the Trojans on that play would put the ball back on the 26-yard line, where senior Langdon King would run in for yet another touchdown. The Tigers blocked the PAT.

Shrader grabbed an interception with two minutes left in the half.

The Trojans came back from halftime ready to go and on their offensive possession, Spour scoring for a third time to cushion the Trojans’ lead at 38-0.

Paris would respond later in the quarter with a scoring drive, scoring on a quarterback sneak.

Senior Cody Bell scored for the Trojans to start the fourth quarter. Paris responded by going on an impressive drive setting up Sophomore Christian Perez to score. That score would give Paris some momentum as they recovered a Charleston fumble and scored. Charleston blocked the extra point attempt, making it 44-20.

Charleston wouldn’t give up and Junior Ezekiel Hall and sophomore Alex Matheny would both score to give the Trojans the final margin of victory.

The Trojans are on the road again next Friday for a game at Jersey Community High School.
