Two pairs of Mattoon girls golfers placed in the top five of Friday’s Bloomington Best Ball Tournament, propelling the Lady Wave to a second place team finish.

The duo of Adrienne Muchow and Blair Powers fired a three-over par 75, one stroke behind a duo from Normal U High, good for second place, while Marley Vanhoveln and Julia Morton finished fifth, carding a 79 at the hilly Highlands Golf Course.   

Mattoon’s 154 team total was four strokes back of champion Normal University High, easily outdistancing Bloomington Central Catholic’s 172 in the 11-team meet. 

The Lady Wave are back in action Monday for a tri-meet at Taylorville with Mt. Zion.
