The Mattoon girls golf team finished second in the season opening Charleston nine/hole scramble Monday.
Mattoon shot a team total of 78, one stroke back of Salem. Effingham St. Anthony finished third with a 79, while Charleston’s team total was 92.
The Mattoon tandem of Marley Vanhoveln and Blair Powers carded a 36 on the front nine of Charleston Country Club, losing the title on a scorecard playoff to a pair from Salem.
Mattoon’s Julia Morton had the longest putt on hole one, while Blair Powers first shot on number three won for longest drive.
