Mattoon American Legion Post 88 loses in wild finish, 3-2

The Central Illinois Predators scraped together a run in the bottom of the ninth on a single, sacrifice and wild pitch to defeat Mattoon American Legion Post 88 18U on Saturday.

The two teams each scored twice in the first inning, Gunner Laughhunn doubled in both of Post 88’s on the first pitch he saw. Central Illinois tied the score in the bottom of the inning, the last runs scored until the final inning.

“We pitched well again,” Post 88 coach Stacey Birdsong said. “We’re just not putting the ball in play enough.”
