Mattoon High girls basketball coach Amanda Aydt has been named a coach of the year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA), it was announced Wednesday night.
The Green Wave, which finished the season 27-6, won a regional title, went undefeated to win the Apollo Conference title and also captured two tournaments – its own holiday event and the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament – before losing to Bethalto Civic Memorial in the sectional, 57-37.
“I am very honored to receive recognition as Coach of the Year from the IBCA,” Aydt said. “It is a testament to our coaching staff and to all of the young ladies who have worked so hard to make our program successful. I am blessed to be surrounded by such great coaches and players and supported by our administration, our school district, and our community.”
