
Bella Dudley and Tayler Barry combined for 29 points to lead Tri-County past Danville, 59-52, and take fifth place in the Charleston Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament at Baker Gym.
Tri-County, which had finished pool play 1-2, beat Cairo and Danville to finish 3-2 overall.
Barry entered the final day ranked as the tournament’s third-leading scorer. She scored 14 points Monday to total 88, a 17.6 average per game. Dudley had 15 points for 62 total, a 12.4 average. Both players were named to the all-tournament team.
Erin Houpt scored a game-high 28 points for Danville for 127, her 25.4 average best in the tournament.
Earlier, Charleston was awarded seventh place when Cairo forfeited their final two games after the coach had pulled the team off the floor on Saturday afternoon.
Paris went on an 11-2 run in overtime to defeat Teutopolis, 44-35, to capture the girls team championship. Charleston had won this tournament the past two years.
Paris defeated Effingham, 58-20, in the semifinals Saturday, while Teutopolis had beaten Sacred Heart Griffin, 56-49, in overtime to reach the finals. Both teams had gone undefeated through three pool play games.
Sophie Lowis scored 16 points to help Sacred Heart Griffin shut down Effingham, 45-25, to take third place in the tournament. Sawyer Althoff had six points for the Flaming Hearts.
