
Four Green Wave players scored in double-figures Friday night, helping Mattoon post its first Apollo Conference victory in a rout over host Mt. Zion, 75-39.
Mattoon is now 1-2 in the conference. The Braves are 0-2.
The Green Wave took a 21-13 lead in the opening quarter behind five combined 3-pointers by Dalton Compton and Cam’Ron Thomas.
By halftime, Mattoon led 44-27 thanks to four-more 3s from three players. The Green Wave made 13 3-pointers overall.
Mattoon limited Mt. Zion to 12 second-half points, and only five points on free throws in the final quarter.
Thomas made four 3-pointers and added two field goals for a game-high 16 points. Sam Bradbury added 13 points on six field goals and a free throw.
Meade Johnson scored all 12 of his points in the second half as did Compton, who hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter and added two free throws in the second quarter for his 11 points.
The Green Wave next travel to face Shelbyville on Tuesday.
