
Teutopolis’s Jordan Hardiek scored 19 points in an explosive 31-point first quarter that enabled the Wooden Shoes to cruise past Mattoon, 82-44, on Friday in the St. Anthony’s Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament in Effingham.
The Green Wave were outscored 31-9 in the opening quarter and never relinquished the lead. Mattoon drops into the consolation final at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Teutopolis advanced to play St. Anthony, a 62-55 winner over Effingham, in the championship game set for 7:30 tonight.
CamRon Thomas nailed three 3-pointers to score a team-high 11 points for Mattoon, and Meade Johnson added 10.
The Green Wave shot 39.1 on field goals, making 18 of 46. Mattoon made eight of 21 3-point attempts and had 17 rebounds.
Mattoon committed 21 turnovers while Teutopolis had only eight.
